Tire Trouble Can Prove Deadly on the Road
Proper vehicle maintenance and quality parts play a major role in making sure your car runs smoothly. It also is an important part of reducing your risk for car accidents and injuries. Automobile or part defects create dangerous situations on the road, making it more likely to lose control of your vehicle. A recent fatal crash involving a Fort Pierce resident and her daughter in which the tires are reportedly to blame highlights the potential dangers. The following provides tips on what to look for to ensure you are safe before heading out on the road.
Tires Blamed for Fatal Crash Involving Ft. Pierce Woman and Her Daughter
A Fort Pierce mother and her nine-year-old daughter were recently killed in a freak accident that occurred on Interstate 95 in Martin County. According to an April 23, 2019 news report by the TCPalm, the deadly crash happened shortly after 5:00 p.m. as the family was headed northbound in Palm City.
The female driver and her two young children where in a Chevrolet Trailblazer. Police investigations indicate that she lost control of the vehicle while driving in traffic after tire treads on the Trailblazer suddenly separated. The SUV ended up rolling over as a result, causing fatal injuries for the woman and her nine-year-old daughter. The other child, an 11-year-old girl, was rushed to Cleveland Clinic Tradition Hospital and is reportedly in serious condition.
Checking For Defective Tires
Your car’s tires play a crucial role in protecting your safety on the road. As the above accident shows, a blowout or other malfunction could easily put the lives of you and your passengers in danger. Unfortunately, tread separations are all too common and are often caused by overworn, damaged, or defective tires.
Whether you are planning a long trip or simply running errands, it is important to make sure your vehicle has good, dependable tires. Even if your tires are relatively new, it is important to check tire pressure and the overall condition of the tires on a regular basis as well. Consumer Reports advises to be alert for the following:
- Uneven tread wear;
- Cracks or cuts in the sidewall of the tire;
- Bulging or blistered areas anywhere on the tire;
- Excessive vibration that seems to come from the tires while operating the vehicle.
In some cases, a manufacturer may be to blame for tire problems. All types of automobile parts end up being routinely recalled due to faults and defects, which could end up jeopardizing the safety of drivers. Check tire recalls to ensure yours are safe and only buy tires from a reputable dealer.
